The expression " after the Lords Show " can best describe a very disappointing batting display at Ashford's Stacians Park ground on Sunday. After batting so well and sensibly against Nonington the previous week, the opposite was on show this week, with a number of poor shots selected and some pretty crazy running between the wickets. Even Jack, who score 25 out of our paltry total of 48 all out ( the next best score was 3 !! ) cannot be excused a slog off the last ball of the opening ( and best by far ) bowler's spell, when a defensive shot would surely have meant a retirement in the next few balls, with a possible opportunity to come in and play a few attacking shots at the death ! Just a reminder that the game is not just about going out there to bat bowl and field - you have to think about it too !!
In the reply, Ashford were never in any trouble, although the boys tried hard and they went on to win by 9 wickets, with 9 overs to spare, with Harry taking the only wicket with an impressive couple of overs.
So it was a baptism of fire for the 2 youngsters from the U11s - Joseph Parry and Harry Divers, who by no means looked out of place and to their credit, both scored runs. Thanks for playing guys and I hope our performance has not put you off U13 cricket !!
There is a week's break before our next match at home to Elham on 14th July.
