A tremendous all round performance against arch-rivals Nonington on Sunday has boosted the Park's chances of winning the Saxon Shore League this year.
Nonington elected to bat first on a cold damp morning, but they we unable to force the pace because of the accuracy of the bowling, the keenness in the field and some astute field placings.
In fact the first boundary was not scored until the 13th over and the opposition were restricted to 96 for 6 off their 20 overs. The wickets were shared around: Barney bowled straight and picked up a plumb LBW; Finlay took his first wicket with a fine delivery and Jack bowled 2 in 2 balls, but it was the accuracy of Felicity ( and how she didn't take a wicket, I just don't know ! ) and Harry that set the standard. Euan bowled with pace and it was clear that their batsmen didn't " fancy it ", when he pitched short - all part of the game as far as I am concerned !
The team talk at the interval concentrated on batting sensibly to chase down this total. Euan and Alex got off to their usual fast start, but it wasn't to be their day as they were both out to attacking shots and we were suddenly 21 for 2, when Harry joined Jack at the crease. The next 7 overs saw the best batting of the season so far as these two manoeuvred the ball around the field with ease, picking up singles with terrific placement and good calling and running between the wickets. They also did not miss the opportunity to put away the bad ball and both retired - Jack with the last ball of the game - and Sibton won easily by 6 wickets and five and a half overs to spare !
It was a true team performance - Nat fielded particularly well at short fine leg as did Max at deep square leg, with some tricky football skills on display ! Tristan was responsible for a very good run out with a good pick up and throw over the top of the stumps and Alex kept tidily on his debut behind the wicket.
And so onto the next match - away to Ashford this coming Sunday. We are on a roll - let's keep it going !!
