Under 15s away at Ashford Town 25/6/13. Result won by 43 runs.
The Under 15s continued their recent good form at Ashford on a sunny, still, June evening.
Sibton batted first and Miles Clayton missed out for once, soon finding mid-wicket with a pull shot. At the other end Harry Wren was playing himself in nicely and went on to make an impressive 38, before falling to a tremendous caught and bowled. He was well supported by Henry Roberts and Ben Brenchley who made 29 not out. The pitch was dry and dusty which suited Ashford’s spinners. They kept our batsmen in check with some tight bowling but the total of 106 for 4 off 20 overs was a touch disappointing. With more aggressive running in the last 5 overs we could and should have made 120.
Rufus Cottrell opened the bowling for Sibton and struck twice in his first over. With Miles also taking a wicket with his fourth ball at the other end Ashford were already looking down the barrel of a defeat at 7 for 3. Sibton kept up the pressure well. Jack Woodward weighed in with a good spell of 2 for 7 and the other wickets were shared out between Owen Smith (2 for 13), Harry Wren, Henry Roberts and Isaac Bergin (1 wicket each). Ashford were never really in the hunt and ended up 63 all out off 19.3 overs.
This was a very good effort by Sibton in the field. Henry Roberts skippered imaginatively in Josh’s absence, using the full range of his bowling attack to good effect. Special mention goes to Harry Wren who took no less than 5 catches at short extra, some of them quite easy, one of them particularly sharp and low. Our keeper, Ben Brenchley, also took a fine one-handed catch and a stumping.
Well done to all the players! Our league campaign continues next Tuesday with an away game at Hythe.
