The Under 15s had some cricket weather (at last!) for their home league game against Hawkinge at The Park on Friday evening 14th June.
Sibton batted first and the opening partnership saw the score well past 50. Miles Clayton, who batted beautifully, eventually retired 50 not out. Henry Roberts was less fluent to begin with but showed good determination and started playing well in the latter stages of his innings of 34. Unfortunately the batsmen who followed could not capitalize on our good start and the innings closed on 113 for 7 off 20 overs. Less hitting in the air and more concentration are required in the middle order!
If Sibton’s batting was a bit disappointing the bowling and fielding more than made up for it.
Seth Rice struck early and four other bowlers (Miles, Jack Woodward, Josh Woodgate-White and Rufus Cottrell) chipped in with wickets. The best performance came from Rufus who bowled with accuracy and hostility, finishing with 3 for 5 off 3 overs. Sibton’s fielding was generally good, with a couple of good catches and some attacking ground fielding. Hawkinge were never really in the hunt and ended up 66 all out off 18.3 overs.
Rufus and Miles (again!) were the stars of this particular show but Marcus Fisher’s 2 catches behind the stumps are also worthy of mention. We hope for more of the same at home to Elham this Wednesday evening.
