After a wet and frustrating month of May the Under 15s at last began their Saxon Shore League campaign away at Folkestone on Tuesday evening 4th June. These are two well-matched team who had a competitive cup game a month ago. This was another close one.
Folkestone began slowly against some accurate Sibton bowling – Miles Clayton was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 7 off 4 overs of well controlled spin. In the middle of the innings Folkestone accelerated against some wayward Sibton bowling and finished on a respectable 113 for 6 off their 20 overs.
Sibton began their innings brightly with Harry Wren (15), Josh Woodgate-White (13) and Miles Clayton (27) looking likely but we lost wickets at crucial times. Despite some fine blows by Seth Rice (17 not out) towards the end we came up just short, finishing on 106 for 7 in our 20 overs.
This was a competitive game even if the result went against us. Miles Clayton deserves a special mention for a fine performance with bat and ball. The lack of match practice showed in our bowling. We need to smarten this up before our next fixture at home to Hawkinge on Friday 14th June.
