Actually, it should read 4th May only as the Sunday game V Hythe had to be called off due to lack of players (Sibton players) - poor form this early in the season!
Saturdays games saw both 1s and 2s play Folkestone
The 1s at Folkestone restricted Folkestone to meager 175. AA took 2, Boat took 3 and the rest were shared including two run outs. Jon Smith top scored for the Stone with a handy 90.
However it was in vain in the end as Sibton got over the line with 2 overs to spare, mainly thanks to Tim Bishop, 82, and the mid order which is pretty useful these days of Rowey 34 and Simon Knight 20, both not out to steer home.
That's exactly what the boys need in a tough Premier a league, a solid bowling & fielding display (but can be improved) and batting all the way down to 11 to win games.
Meanwhile at Sibton, a weakened 2s took on a young, strong looking Folkestone 2's. After a rain delayed start a 25 over a side match commenced. An absolute abysmal bowling & fielding display followed as Folkestone bashed it everywhere. 121 for Nathan Smith and 46 for his opening partner left Folkestone in good stead as they amassed 216 in 25 overs for the loss of 4 wickets.
After an exquisite tea (Thanks Mrs Tidy - you can do it again!) Sibton got off to a solid enough start but a few quick wickets and Sibton were struggling. The middle order held up and Sibton finished on 93 after their 25 overs, for 7 wickets.
Some old bald guy finished on 32 not out - just thought I'd mention it!
Next week the league starts. The 1s will look to improve and continue their form at home against Bromley, whilst the 2s need a much improved performance (with hopefully a full & fit squad to select from) as they travel to a tough Linden Park.
