Let's start by a big thanks to Mersham Sports for swapping the game to Mersham following a cold/wet start not allowing Mr Kirk time to prepare - cheers guys.
Mersham batted first and got to a respectable 186 all out.
Our youngsters did the damage, with impressive Jake Benfield taking 3 for 21 off 8 overs on debut and the left arm of Elliot Tyler with 2 for 48 in 7.5 overs. Both guys have been working hard in the winter and so deservedly reap rewards. The other wickets were shared but I suppose I do have to mention a 3 fer for Hickers.
In reply again one youngster shone through - as returning Tim Bishop cracked a fine 51 before retiring, allowing Dennis Cullum to hit 39 also in his first game. However the star was a tender aged 14 year old, Harry Wren, on an unbeaten 74.
187 was scored in just 24.3 overs!!
Some of us need to look out, these young guys are coming through and looking very good - long may it continue.
This is a good start, as the fixtures start to come thick and fast - next Saturday sees a friendly V Willesborough and Sunday the first stiff opposition of East Grinstead (away) in the ECB National Knockout competition.
