SPCC Development X1 finally got their season under way on Sunday v Kennington, after 3 previous fixtures had been cancelled.
Conditions were cool and breezy, with Sibton finding themselves in the field after Dave Finch understandably elected to bat first - and the visitors made a good start, before Philly got one to skid through to trap the opener for a well-struck 32.
Jonathan had brought on Josh to wheel-away at one end and his patience paid off with 2 wickets in 2 balls - and Philly struck again during a very tidy spell, which included 3 consecutive maidens.
Harry also bowled a successful spell of 2 for 28, but some hard hitting from their tail meant that the Park would be pursuing a sizeable total of 197.
We made a poor start, with both openers ( Josh and Philly ) going cheaply, before the skipper ( Jonathan ), got the scoreboard moving with some good shot-making, followed by some lusty blows - mainly on one leg, following an earlier injury which meant a runner was required for the latter part of his innings. Jonathan hobbled off for a well-struck 25 !
Our middle order failed to fire and lacked a little application - until Bradley entered the fray when we were teetering on 74 for 6. He mixed a solid defence with attacking shots to the right balls - and really showed the way with a very fine unbeaten 57. Georgina played very sensibly at the other end they took the total to a very creditable 143, before the wily Finch bowled Georgina with his slower ball.
The Park were eventually all out for 146 - and there was no doubt that Bradley and Georgina really had the opposition worried with their 9th wicket partnership !
Many thanks to Mark for scoring, to Ade for manning the bar - and to Sarah and Julie for a great tea, which was much appreciated by the opposition !
