Travelling in the rain is no fun, but an essential part of cricket these days, or so it would seem.
Ready to start warm up at 11am, it pours down, various inspections take place, and both teams are hanging around (playing test match in the marquee, a bit of golf etc) taking tea at 2.30pm, with a view on another pitch inspection after. After a magnificent tea (tea of the year to date) an inspection is made, as it has now stopped raining. It is left to the last minute at 3.15pm, when a game of 20 overs a side is to take place starting at 4pm. Sibton are asked to bat.
A fantastic start at 74 for no wicket off 9 overs. The 10th over and a run out as Bej is left stranded half way down the pitch, for 16. Bish gets his 50 but is also run out with an excellent throw direct hit from the boundary. The rest as has happened all season, capitulate as Sibton see out the 20 overs but scored only 46 more in 11 overs for 9 wickets, finishing on 121.
A poor score in the end.
In reply, Sibton start OK and keep Bexley in check, however, another straight forward chance is put down in the 3rd over, one of Min Patel. So it proved an expensive drop, as Lodgey runs out overseas Greg Bains, Min Patel dictates to the bowlers and finishes the game in the 14th over for 74 not out, and another drop catch in the meantime, and Sibton are crushed.
Very very disappointing. Only 4 points, would have been 8 if abandoned, but that's the way Sibton are - they will play if at all possible.
A big game next week as Tunbridge Wells visit who are just above Sibton. It is a must win game for sure.
Elsewhere in the county, all games were cancelled.
