Headlines of a different nature this week I'm afraid.
At Sibton, the 1's took on a tricky Bexley side.
A little scratchy and somewhat in awe of Adam Ball & Min Patel by some so it seemed, what a tremondous start we got off to after winning the toss and batting.
Bish put fast bowler Jason Been to the sword as we raced to 32 for 0 off 4 overs.
Looking comfortable against Ball, Bish was unfortunate to see a guarded ball back spin and take off a bail. After a valiant attempt by AA and a good knock by Hickers for 43, the rest fell by the way side with Bej kicking the ball to run himself out capping it off. Min Patel finished with the ridiculous figures of 4 for 1 off of 8, bowling tight lines, quickly turning and bowling again. Food for thought their. The Bexley bowlers bowled well enough and kept a nice line & length. Another pointed area for us too.
A quick turn round and Bexley were off to a flying start, with Bexleys Greg Bain biffing it to all parts, some flaying and some good shots, but chasing a low total you get away with it more. Unfortunately the Sibton bowlers couldn't stem the flow of one or two four bowls (or 6 in some cases) an over with only Rowey picking up the two wickets to try & stem the flow, but it was all over by the 21st over as Bain finished 76 not out, and from the beggining of the Bexley innings Sibton heads were well & truely down.
Major lessons to be taken from this by all, a must for us to take notice and a wake up call. So far there's certainly nothing to be scared of in the Prem, and nor should we be intimidated by players reputation, and we need to wake up to the fact we won't have any easy games in this league. Pick up, dust down, train hard and if we play like we have been we can easily compete at this level.
Meanwhile at Tenterden the 2's were crushed even more being bowled out for 51 on an allegedly tricky wicket. However Tenterden knocked off the 51 without loss!!! Something to be said there too, ay?
Better news on Sunday as the EKL boys march on, as Whitstable scored a decent 170 with Wrenny taking 2 wickets and Hickers 3 wickets (OMG) In reply AA knocked 81, and Bej 20, to finish the game in style for Sibton. A win.
No 1st team game next week and the 2's are at home in an important game V Gore Court.
