Big changes for the St. Louis Windows Phone Meetup - Please read

STL WP Meetup Members,

It is with a heavy heart I must retire from the management of this fine Windows Phone group.  There's only one reason: work schedule.  Starting in January of next year I will have an avalanche of work coming my way and I can't possibly see how I can manage this group to my, and especially your, satisfaction.  That is why I have decided to retire and pass on the reigns to two fellow meetup members: James McKee and Aaron Bean.

https://twitter.com/jmatthewmckee (James)
https://twitter.com/rescueswimmer (Aaron)

The @STLWPMeetup Twitter account will transition to their sole control today or tomorrow.  I will no longer control that account in any manner.  James and Aaron will jointly control it.  This GroupSpaces (GS) site will be decommissioned.  Your GS account will be deleted, that way you don't have a zombie account hanging around out there ripe for exploit by a bad guy.

James and Aaron have already run with the ball and have set up another meetup for November 9 at the Microsoft Store again.  Thanks, fellas!  It will be from 11 AM to 1 PM.  Just like last time.  They have also set up a Facebook group page which you should access here: http://www.facebook.com/groups/wpmeetupstl

If you don't have a Facebook account, like me, you can register yourself with the new meetup managers by emailing wpmeetupstl@outlook.com and they will keep you in the loop with email notices.  There is a FB email account for the FB group page that you can attempt to email, but we're unsure if it'll work if you're not a member of FB: wpmeetupstl@groups.facebook.com

As always, keep following @STLWPMeetup on Twitter for the latest.  That account is NOT going away.  I will be leaving the GroupSpaces site up for one to two weeks in case you need to contact me for any reason.  Just go to http://groupspaces.com/STLWindowsPhoneMeetup/public/contact and send me an email.  Though your GS account will be deleted, you can still email me using that form.

To wrap up: meetups will continue, register yourself at http://www.facebook.com/groups/wpmeetupstl if you have Facebook, if you don’t have FB send an email to wpmeetupstl@outlook.com.  And continue to follow @STLWPMeetup on Twitter.

I wish you all the best and it’s been real fun meeting each and every one of you who’ve taken time out of your Saturdays to meet fellow WP enthusiasts. You can trust the management of this group has been placed in capable hands.

Kind regards,

Rob Simmons

August is on hold.

Posted by Rob, Sunday, August 19th, 2012 @ 4:21pm

  • Sorry, folks.  I am just unable to get anything together for this month.  I promise, I swear, I guarantee, we'll have a meetup in September.  I am thinking we'll do it after the joint event of Microsoft and Nokia.  That way we'll have some exciting (I hope) news to discuss.

    See you in September.  Really.

No meetup for July 2012

Posted by Rob, Saturday, July 7th, 2012 @ 9:28am

  • Hey folks,

I am sorry to say there will be no meetup for the month of July.  I'm in the middle of a move and I'll be traveling later this month.  My weekends are just booked from now until August.  Sorry!

We'll pick it back up in August.

    See you then,

    Rob

A very special thanks to STL WP7 Meetup supporters.

Thanks for attending the inaugural meetup!

Posted by Rob, Saturday, April 21st, 2012 @ 12:52pm

  • Thanks to all eight of you who took time out of your Saturday to meet me and your fellow WP7 enthusiasts.  It was real nice to meet all of you and see such a variety of Windows phones.  I did a little writeup of this meetup over at the WP Central forums here: http://forums.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-meet-ups/190284.htm

I'm getting things ready for a May meetup.  I hope to do these meetups once a month, though in the vacation-filled summer days of June/July/August we may meet every other month depending on interest.

St. Louis Windows Phone Meetup is confirmed!

Posted by Rob, Friday, March 16th, 2012 @ 4:58pm

  • Yes, the time has finally come. The inaugural St. Louis Windows Phone Meetup is confirmed for Saturday, April 14 from 12 noon to 4 PM at Triumph Grill.  If you have even the smallest interest in WP7, you are invited.  I have been asked if it's ok to come if you do not own a WP7 device.  Of course!  There's no requirements to attend other than having an interest in WP7.  This meetup will be purely social.  A meet & greet, if you will.  I don't have any developers scheduled to speak or instruct you on any technologies this time.  I am confident we'll have development-oriented meetups in the future, though.  So come on out, get some lunch, some drinks, and let's talk WP7.

Welcome to STL's Windows Phone Meetup

Posted by Rob, Thursday, March 8th, 2012 @ 1:58pm

  • Thanks for stopping by.  This group is designed to accomodate WP7 newbies, intermediates, grizzled veterans, enthusiasts of all kinds, and of course, the people who make it all happen: developers.

Everyone is welcome to attend, whether or not you actually have a WP7 phone.  If you have an interest in WP7, come to a meetup.  I am not a developer and have no interest in development, but all developers are welcome to come and swap their coding tricks and tips.

I expect the first STL WP7 Meetup to happen in the first half of April.  So sign up and become a member here and I'll keep you informed.  As always, follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/STLWPMeetup

I look forward to seeing you soon.  In the mean time why not head on over to Windows Phone Central Forums and communicate with other WP7 enthusiasts: http://www.wpcentral.com/
