I live in Carlisle and I have complained to my MP about the actions of the govt. I have also emailled the DECC dept saying that as a local resident of Cumbria, local residents are classed as 'stakeholders' in the Euratom Treaty and so wanted to voice my concerns at their action. I did ask them to confirm the email address that I could send my concerns to - I am sure the email address 'firstname.lastname@example.org ' is not the correct one. I also stressed that the removal from official websites of documents and scientific papers relating to the 1995-96 Sellafield Public Planning Inquiry was contrary to the Euratom treaty.
I am not against Nuclear Power, but I do believe that there are better sites to have the dump. I complained in my govt. email that other countries have NOT solved the siting problem by volunteerism, and ignoring the geology etc.
I am a resident of Allerdale and have to say that I am absolutely disgusted and dismayed that the government have resurrected this issue again despite a democratic vote by CCC against a dump in Cumbria.
It would appear that they are determined to impose a dump in this beautiful corner of England come hell or high water - so much for democracy! This government have moved the goalposts to get the result they want.
I do not recollect any Allerdale councillor asking for my opinion on this issue the last time around - THIS HAS TO CHANGE and everyone should make their feelings known that we are certainly not a 'willing' community. A referendum should also be taken on this. We must keep fighting this!! The consequences do not bear thinking about.
