Read Book Project Oxford - Realising Education Allowing Development
This project is based at Oxford Brookes and Oxford University
Throughout the year volunteers contact local schools in Oxfordshire and surounding counties asking for their their old (but good quality) secondary text books for Maths, English, General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Biology (as well as some stationery, lab and sports equipment). The books are then sent to Tanzania in the summer where the volunteers then work with the ministry of education and the district council to distribute the books to schools and libraries in need. We also give assemby presentations to the schools we visit in Oxfordshire to promote awareness of difficulties faced by pupils of the same age in Tanzania and encouraging global citizenship. Throughout the year we organise fundraising events to raise money to collect and ship the books to Tanzania. Our aim is to raise £7 500 by the end of June 2009.
