11. Public talk: ‘A journey through the cosmos’, 22 April, Tauranga
The Tauranga Astronomical Society presents a lecture by Dr Stephen Chadwick, Massey University, author of the book “Imaging the Southern Sky” with a foreword by Sir Patrick Moore. The book is about the interesting astronomical objects that can be photographed by those living in the Southern Hemisphere. The book contains over 150 of the photos that Dr Chadwick has taken from his backyard at Himatangi Beach in the Manawatu. View website about the book: www.southernskyimaging.com.
Dr Chadwick’s lecture will begin by explaining a little bit about astrophotography. He will then move on to explain some of the science behind the different sorts of objects he has photographed, using his own images as examples. This will be followed by two videos that show these objects in context with live musical accompaniment provided by pianist Penelope Ashton.
Details: 7.30pm Tuesday 22 April, Fergusson Park Hall and Observatory, Matua, Tauranga.
