7:35pm presentation by Richard Hall
44 years ago, on July 20th, Neil Armstrong set foot on
the Moon. Although this feat was a product of the ‘cold
war’, the discoveries made on the surface of the Moon
revolutionised our knowledge of the origin and
geological history of this neighbour of ours. In this
presentation we explore mankind’s beliefs and
fascination with the Moon and the discovery of its true
nature and the origin of its surface features.

8:15pm Supper

8:30pm Exploring the Moon
Weather permitting, we will use the observatory
telescopes to identify and explore some of the features
discussed in the presentation. This will be followed by
the renownedBBCdocumentary “The Moon”.
