When I moved to Scotland back in 1994 I couldn't believe the difference in the horse world here compared to my native Netherlands! Riding club competitions are much less structured here, with more emphasis on fun; whereas competing in specialised competitions (like dressage or showjumping) is not just for the advanced rider. And most importantly: eventing is BIG here whereas I'd never done that before. Particularly after I had bought my first horse (Lennard) I got seriously bitten by the bug and it is now my favourite pasttime.
After I very unexpectedly lost my mare Bolinda (the horse in the picture), these days you will see me at competitions with my horse Heidi; a big bay showjumper that now has to put up with dressage and cross country as well. I have competed in all types of team competitions and I became quite a fan of this type of competing. It really is much more fun than on your own! I was team captain for some time, then moved onto a role as club secretary, and since 2017 I have been the chair person.

Wendy Muir – Secretary
I moved to Peebles in October 2015 and decided to join the riding club to get me back into regular riding and competing having taken a break to be groom to my daughter Taylor. Taylor “borrowed” my horse, Uni Star II (Bailey) in 2013 when her horse was injured. They went on to successfully compete at 1* and were part of the Scottish U18’s team.
Before my temporary retirement, I evented Bailey (pictured), my handsome 16 yr old 16.3hh WB gelding to BE100 level. We qualified for the grassroots champs at Badminton the year it was rained off, were 4th at the Scottish Championships and represented the Lothians Riding Club at the RC Champs on a few occasions. Bailey is now having a quieter life and hopefully will do some riding club stuff and since Taylor has started Uni it’s my turn to “borrow” one of her horses! Pinky, is a 7 yr old 16.2hh, grey sports horse mare. She is still a little green but has a huge jump. We are just getting to know one another at the moment but I’m hopeful that we can get out and about soon once I learn to sit the jump!
