Hi Skaters and OWRD Community,
Mark your calendars for the 1st ever All League meeting for OneWorld Roller Derby. This is scheduled for May 12th at Hangar # 30 at 10:30 am. We expect the meeting to run 1/2 hour to 1 hour maximum and advanced practice will follow.
At our board meeting we discussed defining our team captains and who they are, our inter league requirements, our advanced skating criteria and possible jobs, roles and tasks for additional skater jobs.
We have some exciting league announcements to make and would like to take time to clarify questions and have a Q & A.
Plus we'll have coffee and pastries!
This is not mandatory but we would love to see you there!

Hi Skaters and Friends,
As we grow (which is happening very quickly and will continue to gain momentum) I want to make sure that we clarify what we can and can't do and discuss best ways to go about structure.
Here is the overall ideal:
1). Beginning / Green / Rookie: These practices (like Sunday beginning) are for anyone to learn how to skate; no stress, no obligation, no scrimmaging.
2) League Teams: These are league teams that are competitive but allow for a wider range of skill levels and a good place for inexperienced skaters to gain the experience they need to be able to have a lot of time on the floor during games. The actual scrimmage time is not equal at this level and less experienced skaters are at risk until their skills are higher. No attendance requirements other than prior to game day and should overall be about having fun and getting time on skates.
3). All Star Level teams; Hard skating, a place for athletes to work together and push their limits. Cross training and attendance requirements are necessary for this level and the roster will be competitive.
RIGHT NOW, we are at level 2..... Some of our skaters are ready for level 3 but most arent. The tricky part RIGHT NOW is blending the 2 and the 3 into limited space availibility for practice times. This fall our East side options are going to open up wide and the overall vision will be able to be hammered out logistically when we can have designated practices for teams and skill levels.
We have evaluations at the beginning of each month and true, some of the inexperienced skaters should not be out there much with higher level skaters, but it is often hard to make the call ON THE SPOT, when everyone has a different agenda. Thanks for bearing with us as we negoiate this in the best way that we can which will be a series of bumps in the road.
I think it is time to go back to my original idea of identifying skaters with colors.
Green vests = new skaters, Yellow = low - high intermediate and dark or team jerseys = advanced. ( I'll call it BLUE for now)
At any time, green vests cannot scrimmage. Yellows should not equal the amount of dark colors on the floor at any time, nor should they be in as often as BLUE skaters.
I'm going to order a bunch of vests today so we can begin to identify who is who and be able to hold safe and sane scrimmages.
Feel free to chime in and REALLY, thanks for being part of this. We WILL create something different, organized and clear.
