Every pupil of Bishop Wordsworth’s School (BWS) is, upon leaving BWS, an Old Wordsworthian. When pupils start in the Lower School, parents are offered the chance for their son to be enrolled in the Old Wordsworthians' Association.
Upon leaving BWS, the pupils who have paid a subscription to join the OWA, receive an OWA tie, and sent each issue of the OWA Newsletter, until he reaches the age of 25. However, Old Wordsworthians are welcome to join the association at any time.
Originally, the joining fee was a ‘fee for life membership’. The OWA relied upon generous donations to maintain a workable financial situation. With rising costs and liabilities, the elected committee decided to enrol the OWA as a registered charity.
As time has progressed and costs have risen, the Trustees reluctantly decided that in 2000, it would be necessary to introduce an annual fee for Old Wordsworthians to be members of the OWA. There would be no ‘joining fee’ as such.
Outgoings include paying for a School prize, approved grants to former pupils, and donations to the ‘Friends of Salisbury Cathedral’. We have donated benches for the pupils in the courtyards, and will look at all requests for sponsorship, to assist the School, and the pupils. Recently we have made a donation to allow the renovation of windows in the Chapel.
As of 1st April 2013 the fees are as follows:
Annual Membership Fee
Joining Fee for members under 25 at 1st April (no Annual Fee up to 25)
Joining the Association
We would be pleased to welcome any former pupil or member of staff to the association.
