This event is in the past.
The workshop is targeted at early career ecologists in the process of writing and publishing their first scientific work(s). The workshop will include presentations and exercises
Topics of the workshop include: What does the editor focus on when receiving your submission? How does your manuscript look from the editor’s point of view? How to write a good cover letter? What are the “typical mistakes” made by beginners and how to avoid them? What are the main reasons when a manuscript is not sent out in review? How does the reviewer see your manuscript? How to efficiently respond to reviewers comments?
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own written material (in the form of a cover letter, abstract and figures of a manuscript), which will be discussed in groups and subject to peer-feedback during the workshop. In preparation of the workshop, you are asked to read part of the book Writing Science (2012) by Joshua Schimel.
Teaching format: Lectures, exercises, group and plenary discussions.
