Are you moving to a new apartment? A community filled with people is a great place to make some new friends, but it can be daunting to start the process of meeting people. Here are some tips that will help you get out there and meet people!

Make Use of the Amenities

You can't make friends if you're constantly stuck at home. If your apartment community has amenities, like a fitness center or pool, make yourself a regular. This will give you the chance to meet those who live around you and make some new friends.

Explore Your Neighborhood

Your friends don't necessarily have to live in your apartment community. Get out in the neighborhood and explore what's nearby, an you will have the chance to meet people. If you take the time to explore the attractions, restaurants, bars, and shopping centers that are in line with your tastes, you will have the chance to meet people with similar interests and hobbies, which is a great starting place for a new friendship.

Schedule Playdates

If you have kids, schedule some playdates with friends from their school, or look for a local parent's group to join. This will give you the opportunity to connect with parents who have kids in the same age range, and meeting people in your same walk of life will increase the chances of making friends.

Say "Hi"

It seems simple, but you can't make friends if you don't say "hi" and introduce yourself. Don't wait for others to make the first move. Put yourself out there. You never know when that person you're walking by could be your next best friend, or at least a great acquaintance to add to your network. After you've introduced yourself, consider inviting some of your new acquaintances over for dinner or drinks!

Bake Something

While it's typically the established neighbors that bring a welcome gift over to the new resident, this doesn't have to be the case. Bake up your favorite bread or cookie recipe, then head to the apartment next door to introduce yourself. The baked good is a great ice breaker, and you will showcase that you are a friendly person worth getting to know.

Attend Community Events

Whether events in your town or at your new apartment community, attend local events. You're almost guaranteed that the others who attend will also be from your community, so this is a great way to meet locals. If you can't find any community events, head over to LinkedIn to find networking groups in your area that are in line with your professional endeavors, and use those as an "in" to start to meet friends.

Moving to a new apartment can be lonely at first, but you can make some friends if you're creative. Get out there, and enjoy the new faces that you get to meet as a result.
