The learning communities we create in our classrooms and with our colleagues grow increasingly more important as the world around us grows more chaotic. As teachers, we have power. We set the tone when we choose to present information in a way that is engaging, when we make the choice to lead students to knowledge and skill through inquiry, and when we inspire our students to make their own thought-out and educated choices about their lives.
MCTE would like you to join our learning community on October 20, 2017, for the annual Fall Conference, "Building Community with Curiosity, Creativity, and Joy." We have a wonderful group of educators from across Michigan with engaging presentations on the hottest topics in teaching language arts today. Come and be inspired! Registration opens at 7:00 A.M. The conference begins at 8:00 A.M. and ends at 3:30 P.M.
Jeff Anderson, author of several outstanding teaching texts focusing on curiosity and joy in the writing process as well as the Zack Delacruz novels from middle grades, will be our keynote speaker.
Kristine Brickey, Michigan teacher and author of Flowers for Rodney and They Said She Was Crazy will be our luncheon speaker.
A Pre-Conference Workshop will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017. This year's Pre-Conference Workshop is entitled, "Teaching Climate Change to Adolescents: Reading, Writing, and Making a Difference"; the learning will be facilitated by Ms. Toby Kahn-Loftus, Director of the Top-of-the-Mitt Writing Project and one of our MCTE Reps-At-Large. More information can be found in the EVENT DESCRIPTION of the Pre-Conference Workshop.
MCTE Fall Conference attendees can reserve a room for Thursday, October 19th, 2017, at the Kellogg Hotel for the discounted rate of $116. For reservations, call (800) 875-5090 and mention the MCTE Fall Conference. Reservations must be made prior to September 19, 2017.
