Kingston University Kayak Club

Training

KUKC offers an informal drop in based tuition system on a weekly basis. All training is structured based upon the British Canoe Union's (BCU) training scheme and works towards a series of awards. While on the river emphasis is placed on completing the BCU one and two star syllabus which covers both canoe and kayak. From this point awarding becomes discipline specific with 3 Stars awarded in disciplines including White water kayak, Surf and Open Canoe. Some of these higher level qualifications will be made available based on demand. All river training is complemented by evening pool sessions over the winter period.

All coaching within the club is conducted by BCU qualified coaches who are either part of Albany Park centre or students. For the more experienced paddlers KUKC is also able to offer both safety and coaching based qualifications again based upon demand. Currently the intention is to run Foundation safety and rescue training, First aid and also BCU/UKCC Level One coach.
