KMBC Affiliated with Act-Belong-Commit

Posted by Russell Bell, Wednesday, 22nd July 2015 @ 5:02pm

  • KMBC is now a member of Act-Belong-Commit.

Act-Belong-Commit is a mental health promotion campaign that encourages individuals to take action to protect and promote their own mental wellbeing.

The A-B-C guidelines for positive mental health provide a simple approach that we can adopt to become more mentally healthy:

act: keep mentally, physically, socially and spiritually active: take a walk, say g'day, read a book, do a crossword, dance, play cards, stop for a chat...

belong: join a book club, take a cooking class, be more involved in groups you are already a member of, go along to community events...

commit: take up a cause, help a neighbour, learn something new, take on a challenge, volunteer...

Being active, having a sense of belonging and having a purpose in life all contribute to happiness and good mental health.

You can find more information on the Act-Belong-Commit website: www.actbelongcommit.org.au

Trail Maintenance Team Leaders Workshop

Posted by Ian Humphrey, Sunday, 17th May 2015 @ 6:32pm

  • We will be starting the usual weekend morning trail maintenance volunteer sessions soon, however if you’d like to learn more about trail building and are willing to help out over the maintenance season, why not work towards becoming a trail maintenance team leader.

We are running a half day clinic shortly that will teach you the basics of trail repair, drainage and the requirements of working on DPaW estate. Then after this you'll be working with some of our experienced building crew, which will help you hone your skills and provide an opportunity to both ask questions and seek constructive feedback. Once your confident and skilled up, you'll then be able to lead your own maintenance team and pass on the skills you've learned.

You'll need to book a spot and places will be limited, however please only attend if you can commit to attending an 2-3 additional maintenance sessions and are keen to learn. You can register via the event on our "calender" tab.

We will be starting the usual weekend morning trail building / maintenance volunteer sessions soon, so don't worry if you can't commit as you'll still be able to help out.

  • There will be a few prescribed burns in the Perth Hills that will be going ahead over the next few days. Whilst they are outside of the sanctioned trail area there maybe smoke visible over the trails.

These areas will remain active for a few weeks after the burn and should be avoided.
