The Japanese Culture Club is for UAF students interested in learning about and experiencing Japanese culture, interacting with Japanese people, and developing their Japanese language skills. It's also a great place to meet new friends across the campus who share common interests!
If you don't know any Japanese or little about the Japanese culture, that's okay! We welcome anyone with an interest in Japanese culture or the language in general, regardless of current knowledge of Japanese language and customs. You also do not need to be a Japanese major or minor to enjoy our club activities.
Our events range from formal and traditional Japanese customs (calligraphy, ect…) to informal get-togethers and potlucks (movie night, game night). Many of our events are a hands-on experience; like our yosakoi dance team. Yosakoi is a type of trditional dance that celebrates the coming of the fish harvest. its very high energy and a lot of fun! In the Japanese club, many times our members do more than just watch!
We welcome anyone to attend our various events, and better yet we don’t charge for admission! We also do various fundraisers (Starvation Gulch and Springfest) and anyone who is willing to offer some time as a volunteer is more than welcome and most appreciated.
We are excited to have you become a part of this fun group!
