This group is for the spinners in the Jacksonville area to have a one stop shop to know what and where the flow and fire events are taking place. There are many spin groups throughout Jacksonville so I thought it would be good to have a central location for everyone to come together contribute and let everyone know what everyone else is doing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (this is my first time making a group on Meetup). Any contributions you make helps out everyone!
To all those who are unfamiliar with the Flow Arts and the art of spinning toys, or object manipulation, welcome! We have plenty of people to ask for help on how to get started. We have spinners of all degrees and of many different props including but definitely not limited too poi, staff, hoop, flow wand, rope dart, double staffs, fans, clubs, etc. Every prop comes in different varieties and styles so there is always one that fits your personality :) There are soft, practice types for beginners that would like to learn the foundation of spinning; more sophisticated and sturdier types for more comfortable people who want to dive into the technical aspect of spinning; and then there are fire versions of pretty much anything you can think of when you feel more comfortable and want to experience the rush of flames surrounding and spinning around your body! (Don't worry we won't stick you in there until you're ready ;)
I also want this group to be a place where people find not just spinning knowledge but also about what I think spinning is all about, and that's Flow! Flow to try and put it in my own words is the feeling of letting any and all outside stimuli go and losing yourself in the moment of what ever you are doing. It's like your mind is taking a seat in the back and letting your body just enjoy what it is doing. I know when I start spinning my favorite prop (flow wand!) after just a few minutes I don't realize what's around and I almost forget where I am because it's just me and the wand dancing around each other creating and radiating energy with every motion that we take; and especially when you light up a fire prop, all you see is the flame and all your hear is the roar of it spinning around you and it's intense, yes, but honestly it is the most exhilarating thing I have done yet (don't even get me started on fire eating haha).
Ok, I mentioned motion so I feel the need to mention something that goes along with spinning and flow and this whole culture because I feel it is very important in learning regardless of if you spin or not. That would be Sacred Geometry! Ahhh yes one of my absolute favorite subjects ever. Sacred Geometry, again in my own words, to me is the foundation of the universe if I may say. It is everywhere! You see it in nature in the spirals everything from the tiniest atom in a grain of sand to the gigantic spirals of the galaxies! We use sacred geometry in spinning to create beautiful and intricate patterns with our props that create energy and fills us with that energy as well as pulsates it out into the crowd watching us or just into the universe!
Ok, I feel I may be getting a little deep haha so I will leave you with this. If you happen to still be reading this and have not joined this wonderful community, what are you waiting for?! Click what ever button you have to, and join us on our adventures :) I promise you will have fun and meet great people who are welcoming and invite any newcomer to join the tribe.
