Anyone who's been away from home for a long time knows how hard it can be and how much joy a care package can bring. DONATE any of the items from the list below or make a financial contribution in cash or check at one of our collection boxes on campus or at the U of I Employee Credit Union Branches.* No donation is too small. Even the littlest things can bring big smiles to America's men and women overseas. Let's remind them that ILLINOIS CARES.

What Service Members ask for most:

1. YOUR Letters of support, kids drawings, photos, postcards, etc. Anything YOU can make to show them you support them.

2. INTERNATIONAL phone cards

3. Stationery & Envelopes; blank cards to send home

4. Illinois Fan Gear - flags, banners, coffee mugs, travel mugs, hats, jerseys, etc.

5. Personal Care Items:

  • Baby wipes (alcohol-free, travel size)
  • Body Wash, Liquid Soap, Facial Cleanser (no bar soap or pump dispensers please)
  • Unscented Lotion (like Lubriderm)
  • Liquid Hand Sanitizer (travel size)
  • Razors, multi-blade disposable "safety" cartridges ("Intuition" or "Mach 3" type; no single-blade razors please)
  • Toothbrushes, Dental Floss & Toothpaste (in hard-side tubes rather than traditional tubes)
  • Cotton Balls and Q-Tips (travel packages)
  • Ice packs (break & shake type)
  • EverCool bandana (on, khaki, desert camouflage, olive green, and black only)
  • Sunglasses (Ballistic, black only, NO "mirror" types)
  • Lozenges, breath mints, breath strips
  • Eye Drops (i.e. Visine to relieve dry eye, not redness)
  • Eyeglass wipes

6. Workout Items:

  • Weight-lifting gloves
  • Weight-lifting belts
  • Yoga mats
  • Power bands

7. Snack Food Items:

  • Chicken or Tuna in foil pouches (no cans)
  • Protein Powders / Protein Bars / Cliff Bars (and something to mix the protein powder like the Blender Bottle at
  • Instant Drink Mixes (Gatorade, Kool-Aid, Crystal Light -- powdered only, packs of individual serving size preferred)
  • Beef Jerky / Slim Jims (non-perishable; labeled USDA Beef)
  • Coffee (ground or whole; instant or drip), coffee grinders & coffee makers (small and backpacking types preferred), coffee filters, sugar, creamer, Hot Chocolate packets, Herbal teas
  • Gum (blister pack gum is best), Lifesavers, Mints and Hard Candy (must be individually wrapped)
  • Pringles! Trail mixes without chocolate Freeze dried or dried fruits and veggies
  • Fruit Roll-Ups, Fruit By The Foot, Fruit Gummies
  • Energy Drinks (Red Bull, Monster, etc.)
  • Condiments, Spices, Flavoring packets, Coffee creamers, Sugar, Salad Dressing, Taco Bell® Sauce Packets, etc. (no glass jars; small packages preferred)

8. Clothing Items:

  • Socks -- Black, Olive Green or White (100% cotton and/or wool, or UnderArmour, crew-length or longer)
  • T-Shirts -- Cotton or synthetic (UnderArmour) Green & Tan under shirts (Sizes: M, L & XL)

9. Portable Electronics & Entertainment

  • Batteries ("AA", "AAA" and "C" sizes)
  • Music CDs (new or used, no homemade), DVD Movies (new or used - recent releases)
  • iTunes Cards (and other gift cards to send home to wives and kids for presents)
  • Portable Electronics: CD/DVD players / head phones / portable speakers

10. Games and Electronic Games

  • Yo-Yo's, Dominoes, playing cards / card games, poker chips, dice, checkers (travel board games)
  • Xbox, PS2, PS3, PSP Games (new or used, multi-player games preferred), extra controllers
  • Electronic handheld games

11. Reading Material

  • Paperback books
  • Magazines (recent issues)
  • Crossword Puzzles, Word Search Books, Math Puzzle books, MAD LIBS, Logic Problems, Sudoku

12. Stuff For K-9 Units and Working Dogs
