1- HUB or 2-SPOKE?:
SPOKE: I will use mainly non-ham radios communicating with fellow SPOKE members, conveying info back to my HUB Leader.
Introduction:
I'm a software engineer by training, electrical engineer by employment, and dabble in mechanical engineering. Grew up doing construction, remodeling, and finish carpentry. I enjoy building things, fixing things, and I'm a quick learner. Always believed in being prepared for the unexpected, but the past ~12 months have had me redoubling efforts in that area, much to the dismay of my wife, less to the dismay of my children.
Admittedly, I naturally tend to keep to myself, and avoid social gatherings. This is an attempt to branch out and offer another avenue to help preserve my family and perhaps the families of others in times that I believe are headed for a sharp negative turn, past where we have already arrived.
I'm sure that I don't know what I don't know (or perhaps need to know).
Skills / hobbies to share with this group::
I'm sure that I know things, but I'll be damned if I know what things I know that would be helpful to any group. I know how to set tile, how to mix concrete, build forms. I've been moderately successful at repairing vehicles when they break. I'm mechanically inclined, have computer skills, can read schematics. As far as engineering disciplines go, I'm a generalist, having skills in several areas, and dabble in most of them.
I'm sure with a more specific skills questionnaire I could answer better.
Name at least one topic you'd like to "TEACH" to others:
Persistence
What topic(s) would you like to learn?:
It might be nice to learn better marksmanship. I think it'd be appropriate to say that I don't know what I would like to learn, since that's dependent on the need at the time. I would like to think that I have all the knowledge necessary for my present situation, but I'm certainly lacking in training for a situation that I've not yet encountered.
Have you completed CERT Training?:
No
HAM call sign:
How did you hear about us?:

I wouldn't be opposed to it. Would be better if I could rope my wife into it.

SKIP (or delay?) our Dec 12 CHRISTMAS PARTY???
Responses to classes, meetings, parties etc seem to be lukewarm at best, and we've never seen such a troubled time as this in our history.
So, I'm all for backing off and doing what everyone else seems to be doing - taking care of my own.
Now my back has rebelled, so I'm taking it as a sign to just know when to quit. I'm simply outta fuel.
Anyone wanting to step up and coordinate our annual party, come forth! Otherwise, should we let this coast for a while? Maybe till Jan 21?
Thanks!

WHO wants to run local Radio Comm Nets on MURS3T?
(Need THIRTY HUB Leaders!!!)
We are making the HUB groups smaller, as was originally designed -
Shortly, we'll be integrating the MURS3T program into inwP as its standard net and freq, which means I'll be needing a LOT more HUB leaders; one for each of these specific areas (below). If you are already a HUB leader doing radio nets, this will mean either doing another on MURS3T or switching your freq over to it.
Although not required, it would be ideal if you are also a ham operator as you would be checking back with me on a designated HUB Leaders Net on MURS3T and /or HAM. HAM reaches further than MURS.
Reply and type in your name & HAM call sign (if you have one) BELOW to volunteer for this project.

WHY an assigned Call Sign for inwPrep members on MURS 3T?
2 reasons - Legality and Security.
Please read this in its entirety.
As a reminder, respond to the questions ("what area" and "Hub or Spoke") below, to remain on the inwP contact list.
First, it's not legal to use your HAM call sign on any frequency / purpose than ham radio.
Secondly, your AmRRON call sign is supposed to be secure. AmRRON keeps it secure for you on their site, yet so many are out there saying several times a week, "This is X-Ray Zebra One-Two, Copernicus from Cocolalla!". Well, now, you've blown your own I.D. to the entire world and it can be used against you by bad guys.
inwP is slowly - and I say slowly, because it's taking me time that I don't have to set this up - working up to creating a weekly MURS 3T Check-in Net. MURS requires NO license nor call sign, yet it is arguably the most effective non-ham frequency in rural areas of the redoubt.
I've already explained, in earlier posts, the importance of the "T" designation and WHY you should have this in your programming. If you have the (recommended) legacy Don Goodrich program, it should say MURS 3T on CH 078. For some reason, some folks may have that on another channel, perhaps 77 or 79.
The important part is, when we converse on MURS 3T, we won't be "stepped on" by dirt bike kids, satellites, home security systems nor the Navy at Bayview. Bear in mind, anyone on "regular" MURS 3 will hear us, but can't communicate to us or block us. This also mean that we can leave our radios on and in the charger on MURS 3T - 24/7 - and we should only hear each other. So, if a real-life even is happening at 2AM, we'l know about it when YOU call for help.
I am personally assigning the Call signs, once I have rec'd your response to my questions of "what area" and "Hub or Spoke" and updated your individual profile. Note that I've added an additional one today, as more of my neighbors are coming aboard:
SL Cutoff & Clagstone HU (for "HooDoo"); if you feel more aligned with that, than with Spirit Lake, Edgemere, or Blanchard, let me know!
Even if you don't have a radio yet, I'll need those answers to keep you on the contact list. After November, non-responders will be off the contact list.
WHY? Simply because that, since 2004, I've been working toward developing COMMUNIcations and COMMUNIty, and here we are, in the end game. The recent fire through Blanchard could have easily taken us all off the map. Our comms were in the crapper. I'm not about to let that happen again, on my watch. So, there's NO reason not to leave MURS 3T ON, 24 / 7. We've gone beyond years of "classes" . . now we take Comms seriously, or don't play at all.
Your assigned Call sign will let us all know the general location you're in, whether you are a hub or spoke, and have a personal identifier. Once you see your assigned Call Sign, you'll see that there's absolutely no rocket science behind it. Please don't figure you'll just self-assign, though; you'll still be out of the comms loop.
Some of you have already rec'd you call signs; many have not. Please be patient. You can always check your Personal Profile on www.inwPrep.com once you've signed in, to check.
Please "REPLY" to this email, with:
1- Choose the (below) location CLOSEST to you, & type that into the subject line
2- Type your 1st & last name into subject line, and
3- Type 1 if you are a group Hub Spokesperson, or "2" if you are not.
Your subject line should look like this: Blanchard BG, First & Last name, 2

Two or three able-bodied people giving me an afternoon of help, and it's yours!
2000 Subaru AWD / 4WD Forester, Approx 60K miles on the rebuilt engine, 329672 on the car.
Good tires and body; just installed new shocks / struts all around!
I've had it about 8 years and have been thrilled with its 24-26 mpg performance, esp in snow.
BRING A TRAILER OR FLATBED TO TAKE IT HOME: Engine makes rattling sound.
Right now it "limps along" because someone ran it too high in a lower gear and it's beyond my knowledge base to fix it. Sorry to see it go; it still has a lot of joy in it to give to its new fix-me owner!!

My last appearance for a while - tomorrow, Sunday, 11/8 (Grange)
Folks, after 16 years, it's the end of the road for me, at least for a bit.
40-60 hours a week to this group has left me too far behind the 8-ball.
No matter what I do, ask or offer, I can never get caught up on my finances or the farmstead.
It's time to face the reality that I'm responsible to myself first, and I've got a lot of catching up to do.
Anybody want some hands-on farmstead mentoring, contact me.
If you are moved to present a class at the Blanchard Grange, notify me & I'll help facilitate it.
When my debts and work loads lighten, I'll see about maybe picking it up again.
In the meantime, I'm still here as a resource.
I'm ready to start teaching gun classes full-time; see www.PistolProf.com and call me to book your class!
Thanks!
Russ
