Switzerland During the Cold War, Museum Burg Zug, from 19 June 2019
Switzerland continued to build out its defenses after the end of World War II, especially its anti-aircraft batteries. The Museum Burg Zug will open a special exhibition commemorating the Swiss response to the Cold War starting on June 16th. As a key element of this special exhibition, the museum would like to display a "Bloodhound" anti-aircraft battery in front of the museum, However, the museum needs financial support from the public to finance the transport and installation. If you don't want to wait to see the Bloodhound, you cansee it at its original emplacement on the Gubel near Menzingen. Please contact the Military History Foundation of Zug for tours.
Uferlos Open-Air Festival, Festplatz am See, Oberägeri, 19 June 2019
Music and refreshments can be enjoyed on Wednesday, June 19th at the Uferlos open-air festival at the lakefront in Oberägeri for the modest price of CHF 12 (children under 16 free). Food and drink are available starting at 17:00 and the live bands will start playing at 18:00. Please see the Oberägeri website for details.
Zuger Seefest, Lakefront of Zug, 22 June 2019
This annual festival at the lakefront of Zug celebrates its 50th anniversary this year! The festivities begin at 16:00 and numerous musical and variety artists will perform until the wee hours. Special highlights include an air show by the Patrouille Suisse at 17:30 and fireworks at 22:30. Admission is free. Please see the event website for further information.
Open House at the Freiruum, Zählerweg 5, Zug, 28 June, 2019
Some of you may remember IMCZ member Ian Stansfield's presentation of the new Freiruum, which will open ion the old Landis & Gyr / Siemens building at Zählerweg 5 in Zug on August 9th. You can get a sneak peek at this innovative project, which will feature an event hall, a market hall, food stands, a bar and restaurant as well as parcours and climbing walls. Zug Arena Construction Site Tours, 29 July - 21 August, 2019
Even if you aren't interested in the Eidgensössiche Schwing- und Älplerfest, you may find it interesting to see how the largest temporary arena in the world is constructed. Guided tours will be offered from July 29th until August 21st for CHF 20 per person. Please see the ESAF website for details and reservations. 20th Annual Waldstock Open-Air Festival, Steinhausen, 31 July - 3 August 2019
The Waldstock Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year in Steinhausen from Wednesday July 31st to Saturday August 3rd with music, comedy, movies and a special program for children on Saturday. Consult the Waldstock website for more information.
