Mammoths from Zug Show their Teeth, Museum of Ancient History, 13 Jan. - 28 Apr. 2019

Following the recent unearthing of mammoth bones and tusks in Rotkreuz, the Museum of Ancient History in Zug features a special exhibit on mammoths and the ice age in Zug. Due to poopular interest the exhibition has been extended two weeks until April 28th.  Please see the museum's website for further information.
 

After Work Politics, Siehbachsaal, Chamerstrasse 33, Zug, 23 Apr. 2019, 18:30

Zug4You, an online media platform for local issues, invites expats to an “After Work Politics” event at the Siehbachsaal on Tuesday, April 23rd at 6.30pm. The agenda includes a brief explanation of the Swiss political system as well as an update on the forthcoming referendum (19th May) on the federal act on tax reform and AHV financing, the reform of the gun law (EU weapons directive) and the revision of the building and planning law.  These issues will likely interest expats, even those who cannot (yet) vote ;-) Information about this event may be found on the Zug4You website as well as in the attached flyer

4th Lake Zug Crossbow Shooting Contest, Chollermühl, Zug, 25-28 April & 3-5 May, 2019

For those who want to see how William Tell did it, both Zug and Steinhausen have crossbow archery contests on the last weekend in April and the first weekend in May.  Please see the website of the Armbrustschützen-Gesellschaft Zug for details.  The ASG also offers a course starting April 18th for youngsters interested in learning crossbow archery.

"Mäid in Schwiizerland", Spring Yodler Concert, Gemeindesaal Baar, 27 April 2019

For those interested in appreciating this traditional Swiss folklore, the yodler chorus Echo Baarburg presents their annual concert in the Gemeindehaus in Baar.  The concert begins at 20.00, but those who wish to eat beforehand or buy tickets for the lottery are welcome beginning at 18:30.  No reservations are needed and admission is free, but a collection will be taken at the door.

Keynote Jazz at the Theater Casino Zug, 1 May 2019

The May edition of Keynote Jazz features the Esther Bächlin Trio performing on Wednesday evening at the Bar & Lounge in the Theater Casino Zug starting at 19:45.  Reservations for dinner can be made starting at 17:30.  Please see the Theater Casino website for further information.

"Das Tanzfest" Dance Festival, Zug, 2-5, 2019

From Thursday, 2 May to Sunday, 5 May, "Das Tanzfest" celebrates the art of the dance with classes, performances and workshops at various venues in Zug.  Please see the website for details.

Genuss Film Festival, 2-7 May, 2019

This annual gourmet and film festival takes place this year from Thursday, May 2nd through Thursday, May 9th at various locations near the waterfront in Zug.  Please see the program on the organization's website for details.

Wings for Life World Run, 5 May 2019. 13:00

The annual Wings for Life World run starts in Zug at 13:00 on Sunday, May 5th, presumably from the Bossard Arena.  If you can't make it there, you can also participate via app. Registration is required. The proceeds are used to support research into the treatment of spinal cord injuries.  Please consult the official website for additional information, registration and updates.

World Robot Olympiad, Hochschule Luzern, Suurstoffi, Rotkreuz, 11 May

Contestants aged 8 - 19 who work with LEGO Mindstorms robots can participate in the World Robot Olympiad.  A regional contest sponsored by the Zug University of Teacher Education (PH Zug) will take place at the Lucerne School of Information Technology, Suurstoffi 41b in Rotkreuz on Saturday may 11th. Doors open at 8:30 and the contests begin at noon. Winners qualify to participate in the Swiss Finals on June 15th in Aarburg, SO. The winners of the Swiss Finals will represent Switzerland at the international finals in Hungary. For more information, please visit the Swiss World Robot Olympiad website.

Zuger Sinfonietta Concert in the Lorzensaal, Cham, 12 May, 2019, 17:00

On Sunday, May 12th, the Zuger Sinfonietta will feature the soloist Tanja Tetzlaff, performing the well-known cello concerto by Edward Elgar.  The Sinfonietta will also perform a new arrangement by George Morton of Gustav Holst's beloved suite, "The Planets" under the direction of Daniel Huppert.  An introdution to the concert will be given at 16:00.  Please see their website for details.

FIFA eSports, Zugerland, Steinhausen, 24 - 27 May 2019

Those who prefer virtual sports to "sweating it out" can sharpen and show off their skills at the FIFA 19 eSports Event in the Zugerland shopping center from Wed. April 24th to Sat. April 27th. Please see the website for details,

Switzerland During the Cold War, Museum Burg Zug, from 19 June 2019

Switzerland continued to build out its defenses after the end of World War II, especially its anti-aircraft batteries. The Museum Burg Zug will open a special exhibition commemorating the Swiss response to the Cold War starting on June 16th.  As a key element of this special exhibition, the museum would like to display a "Bloodhound" anti-aircraft battery in front of the museum, However, the museum needs financial support from the public to finance the transport and installation.  If you would like to help, please join the crowdfunding effort at www.wemakeit.com.  If you don't want to wait to see the Bloodhound, you cansee it at its original emplacement on the Gubel near Menzingen.  Please contact the Military History Foundation of Zug for tours.
