Hi, Welcome to LGBT+
Whether you're a new student who's just starting, or have been with us for a while we're glad to have you join us. We're here to support and help any LGBT+ student that comes to the university. We help represent you and give the LGBT+ community a voice within the union, boy do we have a year for you!
First off, who are the committee and what do they do?
Well we're students just like you who volunteer and are very passionate about there being LGBT+ safe spaces in the uni, where people are free to express their sexuality and gender identity without having to worry about anyone judging them. We arrange for cool stuff to happen where you get to meet and hang out other LGBT+ people and have some fun, and organise campaigns to help raise awareness around issues that face LGBT+ people. You can get to know us more by visiting the committee page. Our committee is happy for you to contact them in any way, by facebook or email. We hold confidential office hours where you can drop in and talk to us about anything. Our office is signposted and by Jam Radio in ‘The Retreat’.
How do I join?
The best thing about the LGBT+ being a welfare group is that it’s free. We don’t have any member lists except for the email which is your choice to sign up to. All you have to do is turn up to our events.
How do I know what events you’re doing?
We have weekly meetings on Friday evenings at 7.30 in meeting room 3. We’ll be doing loads of things in those meetings, so keep an eye out for what we’re doing. Every Sunday we have coffee from 2.30pm where it’s just a time to relax and chill out. Look out for other things we’ll be doing as well like lectures, activities and trips that we’ll put on for you.
There are a number of ways you can keep up with what we’re doing. We have a Gmail calendar, which has all the dates and times of our upcoming events. You can download this and sync it with your own Gmail calendar if you have one. We have a Facebook like page where you can get updates of what is happening and what we’re doing, the group page is a little more personal and often has posts on the latest LGBT+ issues and other posts from members of that group. We’re also on Twitter, so you can catch up with us on that.
Over freshers you'll find us at the 'ISA Meet and Greet', Athletics Union Fair, Freshers Societies Fair, and just around and about the union. Feel free to approach us (we'll be wearing t-shirts with the LGBT+ logo on it.)
It's going to be an action packed year with loads of things to do. Come along and introduce yourself, make some friends and most of all have some fun.
