So this month has been LGBT+ History month in the UK, and HUU LGBT+ has been celebrating in style.
We started off February by going to the vintage fair in town, followed by a bit of charity shopping. Many things were brought, including cakes. Then later that week we took everyone to 'Big Fun', an adult sized play center followed by a night out to the club Fuel. I'm personally amazed that we could fit 22 people in our lounge comfortably Big fun was amazing and I'm told that everyone had a great night at fuel afterward.
The day before Valentine's Day we took to the union with batches of home-made biscuits, selling them to raise money and awareness [as apparently only 42% of students know we exist] for the LGBT+ group. That day we raising a grand total of £165. We couldn't have done it without all the people that helped out, and also a great thanks to the people who donated.
As if we couldn't do any more, 'Chili at Tyler's' was a great success, feeding and seating 17 people comfortably; thanks to all who came and made it a good night!
Now on to the good stuff. We teamed up with History Soc to organize a lecture, you might have heard of it. Professor David Crouch, a lecturer at the university, gave a fantastic lecture on 'Outing the Middle Ages: The Archeology of the Gaydar'. It was exciting, funny, and educational. So much so that we decided to record it for all those who missed it [we're cool like that]. It was an absolutely fantastic turnout, so thanks to all those people who came.
What's next?
Well I don't know if you've heard, but we're hosting a Pride Party on the 1st of March celebrating history month! Due to the general consensus that LGBT History month can be a little bit depressing we decided to liven it up by having a party to celebrate how far we've come. We've had loads of interest in this, and from that we have a plethora of Live bands and music, lots of dancing, some comedy and much much more. We're even having a Drag King & Queen competition. This is happening at 8pm in Johnny Mac [Union house]. We'd love everyone to come and celebrate with us! Join the event on Facebook to be updated on what is happening.
