Hayling Billy, Hayling Island - Fence removal (Sandy Point)

Saturday, 11th August 2018 at 10am - 4pm

Location: Hayling Billy, Hayling Island, PO11 0LP. OS Explorer 120, Grid ref SU720040

This event is in the past.

When: Saturday 11th August
Where: Hayling Billy, Hayling Island, PO11 0LP. OS Explorer 120, Grid ref SU720040
Task:  Post and rail fence removal
Client:  Hampshire County Council, Countryside Service

Leader: Karen Minett

This footpath, bridle path and cycleway runs along the eastern shoreline of Langstone Harbour, following the route of the former Hayling Billy railway.  It now forms part of the Shipwrights way, a long distance path which goes from Alice Holt Forest to Portsmouth Dockyard, symbolizing the transportation of oak from the forest for ship-building.  A more realistic route for timber would have avoided Hayling Island, either going by land onto Portsea Island or using a ship to get from Langstone to the dockyard.

We will be removing an old post and rail fence ready for a new fence to be installed and clearing back any vegetation to prepare the area.

Meet at 9.45am in the car park on the right just after coming onto the island on the A3023, just before the Apple Green Petrol Station.  We will then move on at 10am to the site for fence removal task (Please be prompt).
