How to Run a Writing Workshop

Newham Writers Workshop

Saturday, 22 January 2011

11 am – 1 pm

St John’s Church, Broadway, Stratford, London E15 1NG

As part of our build up to our Festival of Writing, on 21 May, to celebrate 25 years of Newham Writers Workshop, we are running a training session on Saturday January 22 for potential workshop leaders, or for those who feel a little rusty and want to get some new ideas. Our aim is to train our own people and so get a few more writing workshop leaders for the Festival, but we are also inviting members of the Fed as in the end we all gain from sharing skills. The workshop is free.

The workshop will examine how to go about planning a writing workshop, and also look at various approaches. The trainer will be Derek Smith who over the years has run writing workshops in poetry, writing for children, drama and prose writing.

St John’s Church is five minutes walk from Stratford Station which is on the main line from Liverpool Street (7 minutes away, trains every 5 minutes) or out to Essex and East Anglia, on the Docklands Light Railway, the Overground (formerly called the North London Line), the Central and Jubilee tube lines, and the High Speed Train from Kent.
