Around 12 riders set off from Leytonstone, led by Dwight, to tour Camden and Soho a ride of 34 miles fueled by the stop at the Ordnance Arms on Primrose Hill by way of refreshment. A lovely day for cycling, breezy at around 21º with occasional sunny spells and apart from a manic taxi doing a deliberate left hook, reletively tranquil. A broken spoke was added to our list of failures but everybody returned home safe and sound.
Further note from Max, link below shows a short Google Earth type video record of the ride:
On Sunday 5th June 2016 a group of about 12 led by Dwight left Leytonstone to visit the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Kelvedon Hatch (www.secretnuclearbunker.com/). Some took the High Road to Theydon Bois via Loughton and others the Low Road via the Central Line with the two groups meeting at Theydon Bois Tube Station. From there we headed of the the Secret Nuclear Bunker where all bar one entered through the front entrance while one slipped in the back, and shorter, way. A short stop in the canteen and we were off again the The Stag for lunch (recommended) and the after a visit to Greenstead Church, which had to be short as a wedding was about to begin we cycled off to Epping. We separated again a the bottom of the hill, some going to Epping Station and hence via Central Line back to Leytonstone and the remainder up the hill to Ivy Chimneys and, once a broken chain had been repaired, the Epping New Road back.
Overall, (once I'd recovered from Speedy Gonzales up the Loughton Hill and regretting not bringin my Road Bike) a really nice ride beginning cloudy but soon brightening up into a rather lovely sunny afternoon with an average temperature of 20ºC. For those cycling the whole way a ride of about 42 miles and 671m of climbing at an average speed of 10 m.p.h.
A ride of 14 people led by Dwight from Leytonstone down to central London, over Tower Bridge, along the South Bank, across Westminster Bridge, to St Jame's Park then over to Hyde Park and back to Parliment Square. Then along the embankment, where the E-W Superhighway is still under construction, to Algate and then Whitechapel. We then took Cambridge Park up to Victoria Park and through the Olympic Park back to Leytonstone. Cafe stop in St Jame's Park, lunch stop in the Westminster Arms close to the Supreme Court.
All out, all back with no significant problems. Weather good, cool with sunshine in the morning but cloudy later.
