This is the new group site for D.A.F.T. (Denver Atheists & Freethinkers). We're a local non-theistic group based in Colorado (U.S.), and we meet in the Denver metro area. We were founded on January 1, 2008.
*
We're primarily a social group with a "philosophical discussion" bent, but we're also interested in the politics of religion and separation of church and state issues. We meet at local restaurants, as well as for pot-lucks and BBQs, movie nights and other socials.
*
We occasionally also have educational events such as outings to lectures or museums, and on rare occasions for community outreach or politically-oriented activities (based on opportunities for such events as well as member interest).
*
Our group is for those who identify as atheist, agnostic, secular humanist, and skeptic. We also allow members who are questioning religion… as long as they realize that we're not meant to be a debate club, but more of a refuge from lunacy.
*
We have members who enjoy studying and debating religion, and others who just want to get away from it all… and we seek to be an enjoyable and worthwhile group for both inclinations.
*
We ask members to chip in $1. a year toward group expenses (after trying out a couple of events), which will cover such expenses as supplies for our movie nights, BBQs, etc.
*
Members also contribute to our success by showing up reliably when they say they will, and by contributing in a civil manner to discussions in person or on any forums we use. This is a private group, and membership is at our discretion.
*
We are one of the COCORE (Colorado Coalition of Reason) groups. COCORE is an affiliation of secular groups in Colorado. You can find a variety of other great Colorado secular groups at this website: www.cocore.org/
*
There's now some copycat secular group that wasn't clever enough to think of their own funny acronym, but we're the first and the original "DAFT atheist" group. http://www.acronymfinder.com/Denver-Atheists-%26-Freethinkers-%28DAFT%29.html

For information on atheism and related topics, the following website is useful. The linked page provides basics such as what atheism is, the difference between atheism and agnosticism, and myths about atheists.
