Rides guidelines and Club rules

Out on rides

The following guidelines are intended to help our rides function smoothly and safely.

  • You are responsible for your own safety.
  • Make sure your bike is mechanically sound before setting off.
  • Always follow the Highway Code.

  • ride more than 2 abreast
  • ride past the lead rider
  • follow other cyclists across intersections without checking it is safe to do so
  • ride on the right hand side of the road
  • stop suddenly, there may be someone immediately behind

  • be courteous to other road users
  • let other riders know of pot holes or obstructions on the route
  • indicate before turning
  • let cars pass
  • enjoy yourself

At junctions, if you can not see the rider in front, the ride will have continued on the road you have been travelling down. If the ride is turning off a road, the ride leader will ask someone to wait and act as a marker to point everyone else in the right direction.

IMPORTANT - When waiting for others to catch up either get off the road or pull right over to the left-hand verge. Make sure other traffic can pass safely.

We strongly recommend that our members take out their own insurance for theft of their cycle and third party liability as Cycle Somerset membership does NOT provide you with any form of insurance - even when on our club cycle trailer.[more]
