Central Alabama Chapter of the
National Weather Association
Tuesday, May 29th, 2012
The Central Alabama NWA chapter held its second meeting of year on May 29th at the McWane Science Center in downtown Birmingham. There were a total of 12 people in attendance, including a few family members. Attendees were:
Sean Boogaard and wife
Jessica Talley and guest
Matt Anderson and wife
Brett and Chris (Hollings Scholars working at WFO BMX for the summer)
The meeting began with Tara Goggins welcoming everyone to the McWane Center and introducing Kevin McGuire, graphics designer for the McWane Center. All attendees watched the "Tornado Alley" IMAX film, which was very enjoyable. Following the film, everyone was invited to view the large April 27th display. The display consisted on severe weather safety rules, damage photos, survivor stories, event timeline, facts, etc. it was a very informative and heartbreaking display.
Afterward, Kevin McGuire, who is a graphic design artist, gave us a brief tour of the graphic design studio, as well as the room in which displays are built/constructed. It was very interesting to see the "behind the scenes" of how all the graphics come together there at the McWane Center. A huge thank you goes out to Kevin McGuire and the rest of the McWane staff for their generosity and wonderful hospitality to our group while we were visiting.
The planning for our next meeting will begin very soon, and another email will be sent out with the details as soon as the plans are finalized.
