  • Love the hut weekend

    Friday, 22nd November 2019 at 6pm - 5pm Sunday, 24th November
Location: Dinorwic Mill Cottage, Tai Felin, Brynrefail, Caernarfon, Gwynedd

Now the hut has been refurbished we want to keep it in top condition. So this will be our maintenance weekend for 2019 where we will show the hut some love and get it ready for the winter.

On this special weekend you get to stay at the hut for free on Friday and Saturday nights in return for spending one whole day working on the hut (either the Saturday or the Sunday). Whichever day you are not working on the hut you can enjoy yourself climbing, walking, cycling or just chilling out!

There are plenty of different jobs to do at the hut and no special skills are required to help out. Although if you do have a particular talent in something like Plumbing, Electrics, Woodwork, etc I'm sure we can put your skills to good use.

We plan to give the hut a deep clean on the inside. Outside we'll make sure everything is tidy and trimmed, drainage channels clear, etc. There may also be repairs and project work to be done, more details nearer the time.

You'll need to bring your own food/drink for the weekend although tea/coffee plus cakes/biscuits will be provided. On Saturday night we'll walk into Llanberis for a curry and pint.

Please bring with you suitable clothing for doing mucky work (possibly in the cold and wet). And please bring any tools we might need (gardening tools are always useful).

As with any visit to the club hut please be sure to read our helpful guide to staying at the hut.

Get in touch with Dave Toach (07703 121591) to book your place in the hut.

The course will be delivered by Helen and Steve Howe of Snowdonia First Aid, based in Llanberis. They ran the same course for us in 2015 and it was very good, particularly as Helen and Steve have both got many years experience in Mountain Rescue so they can bring a practical mountaineering perspective to the course.

  • Fontainebleau bouldering trip

    Saturday, 11th April 2020 at 9am - 5pm Saturday, 18th April
    Location: Forest of Fontainebleau, France

This Easter we will once again go to Fontainebleau. For those of you who aren't familiar with Font, Font is one of, if not the, most popular bouldering spots in the world. It has boulders of all levels scattered through dunes and forests. You can climb classic problems such as the La Marie Rose, the world's first 6A put up in 1946 by René Ferlet, or you can seek isolation in the more beautiful and remote parts of the forest. Font must be amongst the best places in the world to work on technique, and it's widely acknowledged if you can climb well in Font, then you can climb well anywhere. The boulders are comprised of rippled sandstone that almost always succumb to a delicate approach rather than raw strength.

Traditionally this is a somewhat self-organised meet. We usually travel by car. It takes about 4h in the UK and 4h in France, with a short ferry/eurotunnel crossing. We usually bring our own pads, but we can hire them locally.

This year we have booked two gites near Saint-Martin-en-Bière. One is for the families and the other for adult members. These will be filled on a first come first served basis. The cost for the week in the gite is £85 per person. This doesn't include bedding, towels, cleaning or extra heating. We will all chip in for the cleaning on the last day.

If you would like to stay in one of the gites that the club has booked then you need to reserve your place here on the website (click the Register button above) AND then you need to pay the full amount to the club account via bank transfer, please follow the instructions on the payments page

Please pay promptly or we may release your reservation for someone else to book.

There are limited spaces in the gites, so we expect those to go quickly. There are numerous other options to stay in Font including camping, so please also bear these in mind. Any questions, feel free to ask Anthony Bishopp or any of the members that have been on previous years.
