The Boulder comp is fast approaching and excellent prizes are ready for there forever homes.

By popular demand there is also an extra weekend (14th March) for a club hut meet. I did a deal with the meteorologists and they promised me good weather so I'm booking my space now!

Bowline CC - Club news (Tuesday 11th February)

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 11th February 2020 @ 7:39pm

A public consultation is currently running to gather views on the future management of the North Lees Estate which contains a large section of the iconic Stanage Edge. The BMC is responding to this consultation but they are encouraging individual climbers and walkers who are passionate about this landscape to respond too. Find out more and how to have your say via this article on the BMC website.

From the feedback I've heard it sounds like an excellent time was had at the club hut by those on the First Aid course. It's great to see lots of club members learning skills which could really help if something were to go wrong out on the hill or at the crag. Let us know if you can think of other training courses that the club could consider organising which would benefit members?

Our Bouldering competition @ Social Climbing is coming up on the evening of Tuesday 25th February. Make sure you have the date in your diary and come along and join us. Suitable for all abilities!

Talking of bouldering hopefully while I am writing this you're enjoying our Tuesday bouldering at The Climbing Station in Loughborough (despite the damp matting). If roped climbing is more your thing then we've got that covered too. Every Thursday evening from 6pm we go roped climbing at The Tower climbing wall in Beaumont Leys.

Have a great week everyone!

Bowline CC - Club news (Tuesday 4th February)

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 4th February 2020 @ 1:13pm

It's bouldering tonight at The Climbing Station in Loughborough. We are there every Tuesday evening from 6pm and now is a great time to join us and start getting ready for the outdoor climbing season. And what better way to start the outdoor season than by joining us for our trip to Fontainebleau in April, more details on the club website.

If roped climbing is more your thing then we've got that covered too. Every Thursday evening from 6pm we go roped climbing at The Tower climbing wall in Beaumont Leys.

This coming weekend we have the next round of the BMC Youth Climbing Series competition. This round will be in Hereford and we are looking for volunteers to help with judging and belaying. I can offer a lift from Leicester for those that can make it. It's a great opportunity to see some amazing young climbers in action. If you are interested please contact Claudia Sarner -

Still a couple of places available for our First Aid course at the club hut on this weekend of the 8th/9th February. Only £80 for the weekend including accommodation at the hut. Book you place now via the club website.

Have a great week everyone!

Bowline CC - WOLF run

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Thursday, 30th January 2020 @ 8:22pm

Hey Bowliners,

Over the past couple of years a crack team of Bowliners and friends have had a brilliant time getting muddy and wet whilst taking part one of the WOLF run events. Tony Hextall has orchestrated our entry for the WOLF run and he is looking to form a 'pack' to enter one of this years events (Tony is also open to suggestions of other potential events to enter of a similar nature). No previous experience required just a sense of fun and adventure.

If you're interested get in touch with Tony now as these events are very popular so booking in good time is essential. Email

Bowline CC - Club news (Tuesday 28th January)

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 28th January 2020 @ 1:58pm

Excited to see the announcement of the meets for this year from our new Meet Sec, see the list on the club website. Most of these are already in my diary and I hope to see lots of you at these meets over the year. We can still accommodate some more meets so if you have something you think we should be doing, especially if you are prepared to organise it, then please let the Meet Secretary know.

A quick update on the Charnwoord Hills Race. We have issued a refund to all entrants, this refund is for the full amount i.e. £17. We will be taking steps to try and secure the running of the race next year so hopefully this cancellation will be a one off.

You should all have received an email about the club AGM
on Saturday 28th March. Please pop this date in your diary now. We'll send out the formal notice including the Agenda and Motions after the next committee meeting on the 13th February. And talking of committee meets the minutes from last weeks meeting are available now on the Members Area of the club website.

Still a couple of places available for our First Aid course at the club hut on the weekend of the 8th/9th February. Only £80 for the weekend including accommodation at the hut. Book you place now via the club website.

Something to inspire you on a wet Sunday evening. I've added an article written a little while ago now by Zoe Pickering about the last club trip to the Dolomites. If this tale of big mountain adventure inspires you then make sure you join in with our Alpine trip this summer (more details soon).

Bowline CC - Upcoming AGM

E-mail sent by Andy Railton, Sunday, 26th January 2020 @ 7:40pm

Dear Club Member,

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 28th March 2020 at Peter Pizzeria, Welford Place, Leicester, LE1 6ZH at 16:00 sharp.

We will be sending out the formal notice of the Agenda for the AGM and any Motions to be voted after our next committee meeting on 13th February. There will be a number of Motions to address changes in the Club Byelaws and also a standing Motion to determine whether or not we audit the Club's FCA Accounts that are sent to the HMRC. If you would like to propose a Motion to be voted on the AGM then please can you send your proposed Motion to the Club Secretary's email address ( before the next commitee meeting on the 13th of February.

Under the Club's Rules of Association we are only allowed to vote on Motions at the AGM that have been circulated at least 14 days prior to the AGM. Club Subscriptions, Hut Fees and Votes to elect committee members are standing items on the AGM agenda and don't need to be proposed as a Motion.

We would urge everyone to attend the AGM; firstly it is your opportunity to have your say on the running of the club and secondly we need to have 25% of Club Members attending, who are eligible to vote, to be quorate otherwise technically we can't conduct the AGM.

So can you please:

  • Mark in your diary to attend the AGM on the 28th March.
  • Let us know if you are stay for Pizza after the AGM by registering on the club website. Payment will be on the day we just want to know numbers so we can let Peter Pizzeria know.
  • Send the Club Secretary any Motions you want to be voted before the 13th February.

Bowline CC - Club news (Tuesday 21st January)

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 21st January 2020 @ 3:43pm

Apologies for the lack of club news last week. I was enjoying myself far too much on the club ski trip to Les Arcs. We had a fantastic time with great snow, great weather and of course great company, we were even treated to some 'fresh pow' before we had to head home. There is already a plan forming for another ski trip next year, probably around the same time (early Jan), if you're interested in joining let me know.

You may have heard about the less than satisfactory food we were served at our annual dinner back in November. This was a real shame as it somewhat took the shine off what was otherwise an excellent evening. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the Belmont Hotel where the dinner was held and after a bit of negotiation we have received a refund of £10 per person along with an apology from the hotel. Those who attended have been contacted regarding receiving the refund via bank transfer or donating it to charity. If you were at the annual dinner please do let me know how you would like your refund to be handled.

No doubt you will also be aware of the very disappointing situation with the Charnwood Hills Race. It is a real blow not to be running the race this year, both for the competitors and also for the race committee who have put lots of hardwork into organising the race (and who now have more hardwork arranging the cancellation and refunds). We will be taking steps to determine how to minimise the chance of this happening again, something we'll be discussing at this weeks committee meeting taking place on Thursday evening, 7:30pm at Pete's house.

On a more positive note our new meets secretary is beavering away preparing the details of this years meets. I won't steal his thunder as I know he will be in touch with you all soon with an update but we are looking forward to a great year of club meets. In the meantime don't forget you can join us each week for bouldering at The Climbing Station every Tuesday from 6pm, and roped climbing at The Tower every Thursday from 6pm.

E-mail sent by Andy Railton, Friday, 17th January 2020 @ 11:57am

Hi All,

Unfortunately because of the recent heavy rains the Bradgate Trust has withdrawn permission for us to run across Bradgate Park. In these circumstances we've had to cancel the race. If you're a competitor you should have received an Email informing you of this. If you are marshaling or helping with the catering then you'll get an Email from Zoe or Lisa letting you know as well.

Obviously we are bitterly disappointed, since the race has never been cancelled before.

We hope that we can run the race in 2021, but we will also be considering other options.
