St. Stephen's DayFeast of St. Stephen, or Boxing Day is a saint's day to commemorate Saint Stephen, celebrated on 26 December in the Western Church and 27 December in the Eastern ChurchA day for people to dress up in old clothes, wear straw hats and travel from door to door whilst  they dance, sing and play music. Its a day to eat the remaining celebration foods. It is a day known for "Good King Wenceslas" who in a popular Christmas carol tells a story of a king braving harsh winter weather to give alms to a poor peasant. He is known for  rising every night from his wealth and went around to do God’s work of  giving alms generously to widows, orphans, those in prison and afflicted by every difficulty.

Boxing Day is a holiday when servants and tradespeople would receive gifts, known as a "Christmas box", from their bosses or employers Boxing Day is a bank holiday. In South Africa, Boxing Day was renamed Day of Goodwill in 1994. 

It is traditional for shops to have huge savings of 50% or more on products for the day so that the less fortunate can also benefit.
