This event is in the past.
I am pleased to confirm that we have arranged an event devoted to the topic of judicial reform in Albania, - a crucial area given the country's EU aspirations. The talk will be given by a senior British judge, Sir David Latham, at the Embassy of Albania (33, St George's Drive, London SW1V 4DG)on Wednesday 2 December, at 6.30 for 7pm.
Sir David has been involved for several years with the Slynn Foundation in its judicial reform programme. The Foundation is an educational charity working with senior judges and justice institutions around the world to improve justice systems and the rule of law, and to enhance professional understanding of human rights, mediation and European Union law and practice.
Since 2009, the Slynn Foundation has received funding from the Foreign and Commonwealth to work in Albania, and this has been the Foundation's largest project to date. Areas covered have included: assistance with Court reform, selection of judges, ethical codes and disciplinary processes, legislative reform and judicial training.
Sir David Latham was called to the Middle Temple Bar in 1964; appointed Queen's Counsel in 1985; recorder of the Crown Court, 1983-92; High Court Judge (Queen's Bench Division), 1992-2000; Lord Justice of Appeal, 2000-09; Chairman of the Parole Board, 2009-12.
After the talk and Q and A, Christmas drinks will be served.
