Summer Sports Information

TAASC kayaks on Twin Lakes and the Scioto River above Glick Road.  Twin Lakes is a protected no-wake zone.  TAASC has 40 single kayaks and 9 tandems. Most of the single kayaks are very stable recreational kayaks. Six of these are fitted with outriggers which prevent them from tipping over. Two of the tandems and two of the single kayaks are fitted with a wheelchair-like seating system.

Event Registration You can register through this website and either pay on-line or pay in person. If you want to pay in person, just stop the process when it gets to the payment part. It will save all of your registration information.

Adaptive Kayaking Lessons
People with disabilities are encouraged to take a series of three lessons on Tuesday evenings in June, July and August from 6 - 8:30 PM at the TAASC Adventure Center.  These lessons include an evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, equipment selection and adaptation and special instruction, if needed.  Alternate times can be scheduled for lessons, if needed.  TAASC's philosophy is to teach the whole family to enjoy the sport together.

Cost for 3 lessons is $30 for Disability Individual/Family Members of TAASC.

Open Paddling  Thursday evenings TAASC welcomes people with disabilities who know how to kayak and their friends and family.  Rates are $10 for TAASC Disability members, $20/adult, $10/child for others.  A beginner lesson is included for guests who have not kayaked before.

Groups TAASC welcomes disability and inclusive groups of up to 60 kayakers with times scheduled individually.  Contact info@taasc.org to schedule a group.  Group rates may apply.

Kids Kayaking TAASC will be partnering with the Adventure Education Center/SuperGames for an awesome fun sports day for kids 5 to 15 years of age!  Cost is $20 or $25 per youth (depending on the event)/$10 for TAASC Disability members.  Adults must accompany and supervise all children in a ration of at least 1:5.  Sign up individually or with friends, your scout, church or other group.  Children rotate through four sports or activity stations including a kayaking lesson and paddling and a special presentation.  Bring a brown bag lunch.  Kids with disabilities who have not had kayaking lessons through their school or TAASC should register for lessons before attending one of these events so they are sure to have a great experience with their friends.

Birding By Kayak TAASC joins with Columbus Audubon to present three hours of early morning birding one Saturday per month.
This is open to people with and without disabilities.  Cost is $5 with your own equipment and $20 if you use TAASC equipment; $10 for TAASC Disability members.  A beginner lesson is provided for first timers.

JazZoo at the Zoo This August evening starts with a cookout at TAASC (bring your own food) followed by a paddle down the Scioto River to listen to a jazz concert while still in your kayak on the water.  A bon fire will follow the concert.  Cost is $20 for those using TAASC equipment, $10 for TAASC Disability members.  You can leave the concert at intermission and be back at TAASC before dark.  If you stay for the whole concert, be sure to have a light on your kayak.

Sailing is at Alum Creek Sailing Club led by Captain Gary Bertelsen. Sailing is free to TAASC disability members. To arrange to go sailing, contact Gary at 614-774-9151. The first sailing date should be in May, based on weather conditions.

Hand cycle, AmTryke and other cycling equipment evaluations are done by appointment. They will also be done at the Open House.  These are free to TAASC members. There are some hand cycles that can be loaned for a trial period. Also, on a limited basis, we may be able to help you find funding to own an adaptive bike.  E-mail
info@taasc.org to schedule your cycling evaluation.

We will have support for adaptive cyclists at Pedal with Pete and maybe other rides.  TAASC
hosts the Pedal, Paddle and Picnic in September for distance cyclists.
