ActionAid is an international aid charity focussed upon eradicating poverty and its causes, envisioning a future world where everyone, regardless of race, gender, background or occupation can exercise their right to a life of dignity. Over the last 37 years since its creation ActionAid has grown and expanded, and now works in over 40 different countries around the globe. It has an acute 'grassroots' philosophy, believing in working 'with' people to better their quality of life rather than 'for' them, and works with local partners to further the opportunities they have available, whilst ensuring that all decisions made are based on local knowledge and experience.
Durham University ActionAid Society aims to extend support for the ActionAid organisation by campaigning, raising money and raising awareness. We have a close relationship with the organisation, enabling us to offer a wide range of exciting fund-raising opportunities, from sky-diving to raising awareness at national music festivals. Our events range from large scale events such as national and international campaigns to much smaller events in and around the Durham area.
