About this group

Aberystwyth University Fantasy and Science Fiction Society

Meets every Wednesday and Friday for Fantasy and Sci-Fi screenings, is a place to meet friends who are into the genre.

C4 Hugh Owen, every Wednesday and Friday during term time, 6pm-9pm.

Wednesdays - We show films! The film is chosen by our fantastic entertainments officer, Simon. Members are encouraged to give suggestions for films to watch, they'll be considered for upcoming screenings. Then we like to have a chat about the film and the genre in general at the social after.

Fridays is exactly the same except we watch TV shows. We try to watch the whole of a season over the term but if members get bored then we switch to something else. TV episodes can be 30 minutes to a whole 60 minutes, so we generally watch 2-3 episodes each week. Pilot episodes are often longer so they can take up the whole session. As ever, suggestions from members are considered!

Socials! We head into town after every screening to have a few beers and some food. This can be the best part of being a member of AberFSF because you get to hang out with other like-minded individuals and have some unadulterated geek-out converstation! Our members come from many different faculties and there is bound to be someone who is into the same stuff as you. Moreover, the diversity of members means you will be introduced to new things within the genre.

Whether you're a Trekker, a Who fan, a Stargate nut, Disc World enthusiast, Tolkien fiend or completely new to the genre - you won't be left out of the conversation :)

You are welcome to drop in to any screening at any time or just come along for the social.

Hope to see you soon!

Committee Elections

E-mail sent by Jennifer Douglas, Tuesday, 29th March 2011 @ 9:15pm

The following people have nominated themselves for committee positions and currently stand uncontested. If no further nominations are made by tomorrows screening then they will be "sworn in" on Friday at the AGM. We still need someone to be Secretary. Please refer to previous emails for information on committee positions.
Will Langley -President My name is Will and I'm running for President next year. I plan to raise

society membership and screening attendance by moving back towards

mainstream sci-fi and fantasy - everyone loves a bit of Star Wars!

Erin Connor -Vice President
Georgina Harrison -Entertainments Officer

My name is Georgina and I am running for Entertainment Officer for next

year. I plan to show the more main mainstream sci-fi and fantasy shows

including some of the great classics!

Michael Card- Treasurer
Kate Ellen Skalka - Social Secretary My name is Kate Ellen Skalka and I would like to run for Social Secretary

in the AberFSF elections.

At the moment we are a quiet and relatively insular group, which can make

it hard for students who might be interested in joining to find us or even

that we exist. I would like to see AberFSF become more involved with other

students and clubs in Aberystwyth, to get the word out about this great

club. I also have some ideas involving trips and theme nights built around

great works of Scifi and Fantasy.
