2013 Jean Frey Scholarship Winner Announced

The mission of the 3 Point Goal Organization is to recognize outstanding high school girls’ basketball players who demonstrate leadership and inspire future contributions to girls’ basketball.

We are recognizing one senior girl's basketball player at each of the Berks County High Schools. These players are eligible to apply for the prestigious, Jean Frey Award. Jean Frey is recognized as one of Berks County’s winningest coaches. Jean remains actively involved in promoting and supporting Berks County Girls Basketball. The Jean Frey Award will recognize one Berks County senior basketball player that demonstrates exceptional character and leadership qualities.

The 3 Point Goal Organization would like to congratulate

   Marissa McEwen- Schuylkill Valley High School


Marissa is the 2013 Recipient of the Jean Frey Award. Marissa will be receiving a $500 scholarship from the 3 Point Goal Organization. Marissa is heavily involved in her community by volunteering at the Olivet Boys and Girls Club along with participating in fundraising efforts for the PYEA, her school PTO, the American Cancer Society and Blue Jeans for Babies/ March of Dimes. Marissa is also a volunteer at the soup kitchen in Reading, PA and participates in building sheds for Habitat for Humanity. Additional community service includes her work volunteering through her church and participation in the Soles4Souls program.

Marissa was the captain of her basketball team through her junior and senior year. Marissa’s leadership positions include being a member of the executive board of the National Honor Society, Yearbook Co-President, and the treasurer of Literacy Magazine. She is also an acitve member of the World Affairs Club, the World Language Club, the PA Youth Education Association and Students Opposing Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Marissa displayed outstanding leadership and character throughout her high school career.
